Uncomfortable sleeping position leads to body aches and strained muscles. A strained ligament due to lifting of heavy weights or stretching your arm too much or any form of over exertion can cause neck, shoulder, back and arm pain. The pain can also occur due to sudden hard contact. Although all these pains may not be always critical but the nagging pain is at times disturbing and triggers irritation.

Shoulder pain are quite common and mostly can be cured with repetitive ice bag application for every alternate 15 minutes. Symptoms of shoulder or arm pain include swelling, numbness, tingling, fever, fatigue, and insomnia. Accurate diagnosis of the pain can get you the appropriate treatment. After the pain subsides, strengthen your shoulder with light weight lifting and other hand movements to avoid the pain to recur.

Cause: Soreness of tendon in the shoulder due to prolonged painting or lifting heavy weight or any kind of sports can give rise to shoulder and arm pain. Arthritis, gout, tendonitis, bursitis, reaction of certain medicines like penicillin or anti-anxiety drugs or oral contraceptives are also cause for shoulder and arm pain.

Remedy: Proper diagnosis can help getting the proper treatment. To get pain relief, avoid strenuous activity. Ultrasound, ice application, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine such as ibuprofen or naproxen and occasional anti-inflammatory steroids injections also gives relief. Special and simple range-of-motion exercises like bending over or rotating your shoulder following resistance exercises with light dumbbells can get you to your normal functions.
